About Us
Menno Singers has been an active part of the Kitchener-Waterloo choral community since 1955, when Abner Martin founded the choir with an aim to provide Mennonite choristers with opportunities to study and perform sacred a capella choral music. The 45-voice choir has since expanded its repertoire to include secular works, accompanied works, hymns and oratorios.
Cooperative ventures with other choral and instrumental groups in the area have provided numerous occasions for exciting music making. Menno Singers has welcomed Inter-Mennonite Children's Choir and Menno Youth Singers into the organization, ensuring that young choristers receive excellent training and stimulating performance experiences. Menno Singers also sponsors Mennonite Mass Choir, giving the larger choral community an opportunity to perform works such as Handel's Messiah and Mendelssohn's Elijah. To date, Menno Singers has produced two recordings: Rachmaninoff Vespers in 1992 and See Amid the Winter's Snow, in 2000. In 2002, the choir was a semi-finalist in the CBC competition for amateur choirs.
