Carolyn Neumann
Carolyn Neumann received a Bachelor of Music Education from Wilfrid Laurier University, an A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University. She recently defended her thesis: Children’s and Conductors’ Perceptions of Leadership Behaviors that Demonstrate Emotional Intelligence of Female Conductors of Children’s Choirs, as a requirement for a Masters of Arts in Music Education – Choral Concentration from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota. She has taken summer courses in the Kodály method at the University of Calgary as well as in Kecskemét, Hungary.
In the summer of 2001, she was chosen to participate in the Kimberley Project sponsored by the Eastman School of Music, to teach and learn music in South Africa. Carolyn has been active as a clinician at local and provincial workshops and conferences, and has had articles published in The Recorder and Alla Breve music education journals. She is also the President of the Kodály Society of Ontario, Secretary of the Kodály Society of Canada and has worked as a sessional instructor at Wilfrid Laurier University. She presently teaches Grade 6 math and 6-8 music in the Waterloo Regional District School Board.
Christine Klaver-Schmidt
Christine Klaver-Schmidt graduated from the conservatory in Amsterdam and studied there with Danielle Dechenne and Willem Brons. After graduating in Holland, she continued her studies at Wilfrid Laurier University with Professor Garth Beckett in Piano Performance. Since graduating, she has worked numerous times as an accompanist, duet partner with Janet vanderSpek, choir director and organist. Christine has been a piano teacher with the Beckett School for 22 years and since September 2000 has held the position of main accompanist for The Inter-Mennonite Children's Choir. For the past 3 years, Christine has also been the accompanist of the Menno Youth Singers.
